No Commission Listing

We provide free horse listing opportunities for sellers who want to advertise their horse with Horses of Canada when they sign up for our Video Service. The listings contain over 100 questions which sellers provide answers to via an online listing process. Sellers must also submit pictures to augment their horses profile as well as provide online video to complete the profile in order for their listing to be activated.
What is our Video Service and what does it cost? HOC offers sellers the service of providing videos to buyers. We provide full video service - no more wasting time mailing videos to clients that never acknowledge receipt, no more videos getting lost in the mail, no more wasting time copying VHS tapes, no more putting effort and money into tire kickers who request video on a whim.
For a monthly fee based on the length of your video, you will have your full length sales video online, which can be added to as more footage comes available.
We take care of sending out offline copies to buyers with no extra charge to you and most importantly most buyers with access to a pc or Mac can watch your horse's video instantly online in full format. You just have to check your email and phone messages as inquiries come in. If buyers request an offline video they will be charged a shipping and handling fee.
You can also list on other sites, horse shows or magazines for example and refer to your HOC ad so you never have to deal with the video question again.
Another feature we offer with your listing and video service is our weekly newsletter. Our newsletter subscribers increase in number daily; by listing your horse with HOC, you can put updates on the newsletter letting all the thousands of subscribers know about your horse winning a class at a recent show, new videos posted, an increase in training level - all instantly!
Cost: $19.00 per month for video of 20 minutes or less. Each additional minute is 50 cents. The length of your video will be rounded up to the nearest minute for the sake of calculation. If you sign on half way through the first month, you will be charged a daily rate until the next billing period, based on the length of your video.
$10.00 video compression fee (a one time fee when new video is submitted)
If you list 5 or more horses at one time, you will get a 15% discount per month.
Digitalization fees may occur if seller submits a VHS tape or a mini DV. No digitalization fees are charged for CDs or DVDs. See Multimedia Services below for a quote. A $5/picture fee will be charged if sellers send hard copy pictures they would like scanned. If sellers want their pictures and video returned they must include a pre-addressed postage paid envelope to the package they send.
Options: $10 profile optimization
It is very important that your horses profile appear professional and accurate while at the same time describing your horse in the most appealing way. An HOC representative will analyse and optimise your horse listing to make sure your horse profile truly delivers the message you intend.
Please be aware of how many minutes worth of video you are sending us as your video service cost depends on the length of your video. If you want us to edit it you must give clear instructions and let us know how long the end result should be. Any editing is subject to our Multimedia Service rates.
Payment can be made with credit card in your Member account. Monthly fees will automatically be billed to your credit card on the 28th of each month to pay for the following month once you've requested video service. When you first sign on you will be charged for the month you sign on as well as the following month with no refunds. If you would like to request that your horse be removed from HOC, sellers must do so before the 28th of the month to avoid billing charges for the following month.
Additional video can be added and previously added footage can be deleted upon request. If additional footage is added after the billing session for the month, a back charge will be added to your next month's bill if your total video length for your horses profile exceeds the 20 minute minimum.

Hire Local Horse Evaluators

Are you uncertain of how marketable your horse is? Are you interested in knowing your horse's strengths and weaknesses? What are buyers going to see when they come out to try your horse, are they going to see a different picture than what you perceive? When you are getting ready to market your horse you might consider having a HOC horse evaluator come out and analyze your horse from an unbiased perspective. This is of benefit to you in many ways. Firstly, instead of a prospective buyer coming to an appointment and seeing a fault and then not pursuing your horse further, our evaluator can make this assessment in advance so perhaps your presentation can be better for the real thing. Our evaluators go over many topics in a detailed evaluation form, areas such as presentation, horse temperament, skills in a particular discipline, in hand obedience etc. See, below for an evaluation form excerpt. Secondly, having an HOC evaluation form filled out in advance is a great way to help market your horse to buyers. You can post the evaluation form on your horses profile under the picture section, this will give buyers more confidence that what you tell them about your horse is in fact true because a 3rd party not connected to the sale has affirmed your description.

Video / Photography Service

Do you need good video or photos of the horse you want to sell? No problem, we can help! Providing buyers with high quality photographs and videos is essential in selling a horse online. Not only do the photos and video have to be clear and bright but they also have to be taken in such a manner that shows the horse at his best. Getting professional marketing materials is a small cost and more than pays for itself in the end. Not only will your marketing materials be taken with top of the line equipment but they will be created by an experienced professional that can guide you through the process.
Cost for Video and Photography
A single media package: $200.00 plus travel (first 30 minutes of driving no charge, every additional 30 minutes $10)
The Video
The video will be mailed to clients and presented in mpg format on a digital CD which can be played on any computer or dual laser DVD player. There will be several video clips on the CD reflecting the different sections listed below.
The Videos and Photos provided are intended for entertainment purposes, as a keepsake for the horse owner and may be used for private marketing of the horse. This video or pictures taken from the video may be used privately by the owner for the purposes of marketing/advertising or trying to sell their horse. The videos and photos are not to be altered in any way from their original format.
The video includes up to 4 segments in one location such as:
In hand, free moving, dressage, jumping, free jumping, trail riding, lunging , tacking up/ untacking, bathing, clipping, loading, show footage
Each additional segment is $45.
The Photos
Sellers are authorized to use photographs for their own private horse marketing. Photographs will be taken of each segment requested as long as the lighting is sufficient. Clients will get the best pictures that come out of the shoot. Clients will be emailed pictures and provided pictures on a CD as well if requested. Pictures will not be printed.

Multimedia Services

Are you baffled by video editing or do you not want to be bothered? We offer CD/DVD creation from VHS or mini DV, we offer CD/DVD duplication, VHS digitalization services and more. We can do every kind of editing of video/pictures and even print media.
$60.00 / hour for general Multimedia Services
When a client submits a VHS tape or mini DV when listing a horse, the video will have to be digitalized. An average time for this sort of digitalization is 20 minutes, but largely depends on how well edited the footage is and its length.

Hire an Agent!

For those Sellers who are uneasy about going through a sale without a professional to guide them, HOC offers Agent Service at an hourly rate to guide you through the sales process. When you have a Buyer for your horse and you want to make the vetting and sale go smoothly, give us a call and we can arrange for the necessary paperwork and mitigate the sale so everyone gets what they want in a fair and just way. This service is a much more cost effective alternative to using a commission based Agency.
We charge $120.00 for sales consulting including necessary paperwork, if consulting extends beyond a 2 hour period in total an additional $60.00 will be charged per hour. Services offered include acting as a mediator during the sales process or during disputes that occur during the sale. Provide forms that give a buyer first right of refusal as well as protect the seller prior to vet check. Provide bill of sale and provide banking service for money transfer. Provide shipping, vetting and insurance advice as well as aiding in the arrangements.
Often during sales no boundaries are given when both parties enter into a sale. This lack of boundaries, even if they don't seem significant can cause a lot of discomfort through the sales process. For example, as a seller you may have told a buyer they have first right of refusal, but you didn't specify until when. This can cause trouble if the buyer begins to exploit the situation taking weeks even months to make a decision while you put off other interested buyers. By using an experienced HOC agent, she can prepare you so you avoid potential pitfalls that can occur that can cause the loss of a sale. If the proper paperwork is signed prior to the deal getting started and all the bases are covered the sales go through smoothly with both parties coming out getting what they want.

Want Ads

Horse buyers can go into their guest or member account and fill out a Buyer Profile online form which gets automatically submitted to our Want Ads page. The Buyer Profile is a series of questions, which seeks to understand the detailed needs of the buyer. Some questions include the buyers riding history, what the rider plans to do with their horse in the next couple of years as well as all the crucial details such as height, age and price range. As a seller you can go to our Want Ads page and look through the ads and contact sellers proactively. The Want Ads are also a useful tool to screen out buyers. If a buyer wants to come and try your horse, you can look up their want ad to get information about their riding history and important information such as their price range. If you think their might be a discrepancy for example between what they are willing to spend and your horse's listed price, you can ask them about this in advance. It saves a lot of time by talking in depth to buyers and using the Want Ads rather than showing your horse to unsuitable buyers and wasting your time and theirs.
